MT:Brave New World follows in many Civilization entries footsteps by pulling out themes of human history and crafting around them, rather than embarking on a Quixotic quest to accurately model unbelievably complex interactions. In reality, the United Nations doesnt meet every 60 years to debate two proposals that could include a global embargo on a major power, but that implementation makes a vastly more fun and interesting game mechanic than a largely impotent body that great powers ignore with impunity.

Sid Meier's Civilization V has consistently provided an intriguing mix of old fashioned and modern post-launch content. While small DLC like civ and map packs have trickled out over the years, Firaxis have now also released a total of two larger expansions. Last year's Gods and Kings was a good addition to the game that implemented some must have game elements, as well as some fun scenarios. This year's expansion, Brave New World, looks to do the same.

While last years expansion, Gods and Kings, brought Civilization V out of a stale rut, it is Brave New World that elevates the game to completion and sets the stage for the inevitable Civilization VI. Its as if Firaxis has managed to convert heroin into a playable format.

"I wasnt going to write this review. Well, I had every intention of writing it, but as the due date loomed ever closer I just couldnt stop playing Sid Meiers Civilization V: Brave New World. I was faking injuries, hospital visits and funerals, but in the end I had to give in under the pressure from the editor. And in a sense, this is exactly what Brave New World is about: Holding out as long as possible before you give in to stronger people."

"Civilization is like a cousin to me. It has been there as long as I can remember and, for every great memory I have of us spending hours together, there are just as many where we didn't speak for lengthy periods. There was also that time I nearly failed my A levels during a particular Civ 4 addiction, something I won't forgive Sid Meier for any time soon. Civilization 5 wasn't the same though, shedding many of the series' deeper mechanics in favour of simplifying the formula."
